Description
Two watchful owls perch together on a gnarled burl of parasite wood, their feathers hand-carved in fine, overlapping strokes and finished with a soft green-gold wash that lets the wood grain show through. One owl faces forward, the other leans in close beside it, giving the whole piece a quiet, companionable feel — like two old friends sharing a branch.
The base itself is the real showstopper: a dense, naturally twisted growth that once formed on a living tree, kept in its raw, unaltered shape with dark bark still clinging to its hollows. Because that base was never two of a kind to begin with, the artisan carved and fitted these owls to match its particular curves and openings, working around the wood rather than against it. You’ll notice tool marks in the feather detailing and small differences in tone between the two birds — since this is carved and painted entirely by hand, no two owl pairs turn out quite the same, and those little variations are simply evidence of the maker’s hand, not something to worry over.
