Hand-Carved Wood Spirit Santa

Standing about 50cm tall, this weathered old face emerges from a half-section of log left in its natural form, bark still intact along the top edge and running down the base. The carver has worked directly into the wood grain to shape a long, flowing beard, a deep-set brow, and a knowing expression — the kind of face that seems to have been waiting inside the timber all along.

Because it’s cut and carved by hand from a single natural half-log, the proportions of the beard, the curve of the bark line, and the tone of the wood shift slightly from one piece to the next — no two carvings settle into quite the same shape or shadow, and that variation is simply part of working with real, uneven timber rather than a uniform mould. The reverse is left raw and unfinished, showing the natural grain and knots of the wood, with a hanging fitting attached for easy display on a wall.
